Thank you, Salem Volunteer Fire Department Inc New Firehouse Capital Campaign for coming out to

teach our kids the importance of fire safety!

Each year, local first responders and firemen visit with our elementary students to talk one-on-one about fire safety, practice a bus-safety drill, and learn first-hand how to react when an emergency hits.

Far beyond “stop, drop, and roll,” students headed to our blue barn to experience a building fire simulation. With fog machines mimicking smoke from a fire, students were asked to test the door to feel if there is heat behind it and crawl safely through the smoke to the other side.

Groups also went through a mock living room and kitchen to see what fire hazards were in the room and explain better ways to create a safer home.

Younger students practiced a “fire safety obstacle course” to learn how to stay calm and coordinated in a difficult situation!
