The Salem Central Board of Education approved and announced the hire of Karen Vieira as the Principal for Grades PK-6 at a regular Board of Education meeting on Monday, May 21, 2019. Karen’s position is effective starting July 7, 2019. The principal position was previously held by Interim Principal Patrick Cronin.

Mr. Cronin provided excellent guidance in our school community as we worked to fill our full-time principal position,” said District Superintendent, David Glover. “We are eager to introduce Karen Vieira into the Salem Community and feel she is a wonderful fit for our school.”

Vieira comes to Salem Elementary from Granville Jr./Sr. High School, where she taught as a Grade 8 Resource Teacher. Prior to that, Vieira lived and worked in Arizona as an Academic Instructional Coach at Pima Butte Elementary, Special Education Teacher at Santa Rosa Elementary, and Behavior Support Program Teacher and ELD Teacher at Casa Grande Union High School.

Vieira has earned her Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Molloy College, Master of Arts in Language and Literacy from Roosevelt University, and Master of Education in Educational Administration from Grand Canyon University.

During her time at Salem Elementary, Karen plans to inspire a positive, motivating, and safe learning environment by supporting healthy relationships with teachers, students, and the local community.
