Students grades K-6 are reading to support the Ronald McDonald House now through Wednesday, February 12, 2020. This program is a great opportunity for students to practice their reading skills while helping others. Information packets were sent home with the students today (Monday, January 13).

The program supports the Ronald McDonald House of Albany, which provides housing and supportive services to families of children who are ill and receiving treatment from our local area hospitals. Our students will read to raise money to support the families at the Ronald McDonald House. Students are encouraged to gather pledges from their family and friends now through Wednesday, February 12, 2020. The pledges can either be a flat dollar amount, or an amount per minute the student reads (or is read to). Last year 28 students, or “Reading Warriors” raised $1,916.70. We are hoping this year to have even greater success.

The Six Flags “Read to Succeed” program is running concurrently. This means the minutes read for “Read to Support the Ronald McDonald House” can also be applied for “Read to Succeed.” To participate in “Read to Succeed” students need to read a minimum of 6 hours, or 360 minutes between now and Wednesday, February 12, 2020. All students meeting the challenge will earn one admission ticket to the Great Escape – Six Flags in Lake George, NY.

If parents/guardians have any questions regarding these two reading programs, they may contact with Mrs. McLenithan at vmclenithan@salemcsd.org or Mrs. Junco at mjunco@salemcsd.org.
