The weather outside has been truly frightful but that has not stopped the Kindergarten classes at Salem Central School from having their annual gingerbread house decorating activity. Using recycled milk cartons, Mrs. Aunchman’s and Mrs. Bourgeois’ classes spread frosting on the outside of the cartons and added graham crackers to create the walls. They then used different types of cereals and candies to adorn the structures. This activity reinforced their knowledge of shapes, counting and following sequential directions. Parents were asked to visit their child’s classroom to observe the magical transformation from ordinary to amazing. The end result was that each student’s gingerbread house was a beautiful and unique creation.
